Catholics, an apology aint enough [reparation: # 46]

Catholic Church owe(s) Jewish People

Pope John XXIII in 1962 and closed under Pope Paul VI in 1965, set out to clarify the Catholic Church‘s teaching on relations with Jews. The Nostra Aetate says that even though some Jewish authorities and those who followed them called for Jesus‘ death, the blame for this cannot be laid at the door of all those Jews present at that time, nor can the Jews in our time be held as guilty, thus repudiating the charge of deicide; ‘the Jews should not be presented as rejected or accursed by God‘. The Declaration also decries all displays of antisemitism made at any time by anyone. But there is more. The Pope did nothing for the Jews during the Holocaust. Just read Under His Very Windows: The Vatican and the Holocaust in Italy is a book (2000, Yale University Press) by Susan Zuccotti.

But now everything is cool? Are the Jews supposed to just forgive and forget about these indiscretions? No way! How many Jews have been tortured and killed because of the Church? How many Catholics have made anti-Jewish statements and actions based upon the Catholic teachings?

The Pope and the Catholic Church owe Israel and the Jewish people!

anonymous: I can understand your bias and your rage, since Jews did suffer the injustices that you list in the past. However, my friend, you contradict yourself in your argument. You mention that the Jews of today should not shoulder the blame of events from the past, i.e.-crucifying Jesus. But on the other hand, you instantly villify all of Catholicism for its past indiscretions, saying that the Church of today should reparate the Jews of today for what it did. Please explain your [flawed] logic, as I surely do not understand how you can even make a feasible argument for any sort of reasonable reparations, or for anybody to "owe" anyone anything.

anonymous: Before the church reparates you, I‘m sure there are a few Palestinians somewhere who would like to have their houses back. Its awfully hypocritical of you to ask for reparations under the pretense that you stole the land of an entire peoples. Based on that alone, I reserve the right to like or dislike your dreidel spinning Zionist ass. The Pope mandating the expression of my feelings only enables my pre-existing bias. Not to add injury to insult, but its my understanding that Catholics were persecuted in the holocaust as well. Perhaps you have your denominations mixed up kinda like I mix my meat and dairy. Sorry Sharon, but your argument just ain‘t kosher. The way I see it, after you repay the arab contingency in the Gaza strip, we can talk about you personally repaying the church for your unintelligent accusations.

anonymous: "Before the church reparates you, I‘m sure there are a few Palestinians somewhere who would like to have their houses back."

Priceless. lol

Gein: If you cannot forgive like the ones who have wronged you, you personally don‘t deserve to be forgiven.

anonymous: Nobody owes anything to the Jews. You have chosen to place yourselves in areas you are not wanted. As such, you have to deal with people despising you. Not to mention Europe gave you a homeland you didn‘t deserve.

Don‘t apologise, thank th: I‘m a little rusty on the scriptures, but isn‘t the whole point about Christianity that Jesus died for our sins?

If the Jews hadn‘t killed Jesus, where the hell would Christianity be??

It‘d kind of ruin the whole conecpt of it. So yeah - the Catholics shouldn‘t be apologising to the Jews, they should be thanking them for justifying their very existence.

anonymous: you people are all completely fucking retarded... the jews weren‘t even the ones who killed jesus, so until you get it through your stupid little heads, maybe stay inside and stop polluting the internet and go fuck yourselves

anonymous: I think everything should just be let go... everything forgotten so everyone can be treated equally.
